This stack of assorted striped fabrics was borrowed from a friend who creates amazing handbags and in visiting her sewing studio, the idea for this painting was inspired. Looking around at all the many fabrics collected there, I was struck by the potential that these materials offered. I asked to borrow a stack of striped fabrics for this painting and decided to paint them on a grand scale to highlight this idea: While the materials are beautiful in their own right - frayed edges and all - their potential is tremendous and one day, who knows what they might become. “Striped Potential” - Maybe the reference goes beyond fabric. ;)
