This black-capped chickadee has earned the title of “Herald” in the bird community outside my studio window. This little bird is the first to alert the others with his chirping as soon as I have restocked the feeder each morning. Unlike some of the other birds, he is happy to share breakfast at the feeder with the backyard bird community, as long as he is the first to partake of it.
The colorful foliage was created by painting a wild, patterned background as the first layer of paint and then covering it up (painting negatively) to reveal the leaves behind the bird. There are may layers of paint just behind the bird!
